Scholarship Opportunities

 Professional Development

Perfect for individuals currently working at a hotel property who want to advance their career by growing their industry knowledge or skill set, AH&LEF’s professional development scholarships provide assistance for distance learning courses and professional certification. If you are a hotel employee currently enrolled in either of these programs through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, then you are eligible to apply for a scholarship.   Application deadlines are quarterly: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.  For more information on professional development scholarships, click here.

Academic Scholarships

If you are enrolled in a U.S. undergrad or graduate hospitality degree program such as hotel/restaurant management, culinary arts, travel./tourism, or hotel administration, you’re probably a candidate for an AH&LEF academic scholarship.

This year, AH&LEF awarded more than $400,000 to 292 hospitality management students through its 10 academic scholarship programs.

The Annual Scholarship Grant program, its biggest program, is co-administered with 85 universities and colleges. In 2010, 210 students nominated by AH&LEF-affiliated schools received $243,825 in funds.
This is the third year for two new AH&LEF scholarships- one for incoming hospitality management freshmen and another for graduate students. Eight incoming freshmen received scholarships totaling $15,000, and eight graduate students received $5,000 scholarships. Funding for the freshman scholarships is provided by money set aside from AH&LEF’s last major capital fundraising initiative, the New Century Campaign, and the graduate program is funded from a portion of the ALIS proceeds.
